North Las Vegas Library Director Forrest Lewis Selected as 2015 Librarian of the Year

North Las Vegas City Manager Dr. Qiong Liu announced today that North Las Vegas Library Director, Forrest Lewis, has been selected as the 2015 Nevada Library Association’s Librarian of the Year, the most important honor awarded within the library profession in the state of Nevada.

"Forrest and his team have brought innovation, technology, county-wide collaboration and increased residential access to our library district," said Dr. Liu. "We're proud that Forrest has been selected Librarian of the Year and glad he is a part of our executive team."

The Librarian of the Year award is the highest within the library profession in Nevada and is awarded to the individual that has shown significant effort in the following:

  • For constructive accomplishments toward the advancement and extension of library service and the development of sound library policies; creative and effective interpretation of the library on a regional, local or national level.
  • For notable activity in library legislation, recruitment, statewide planning, published writings, outstanding participation in NLA, ALA, MPLA, Friends of the Library etc.
  • For broadened scope of service to the community; specialized services to children, young adults, senior citizens, the handicapped etc.
  • For an outstanding contribution to library education; library techniques, library building, library management, establishment or organization of a new library or library system, or expansion or revitalization of an established library system or library.
  • For a substantial financial assistance or endowment.

The award will be presented at the Nevada Library Association Annual Conference, October 13-14 in Fallon, NV.
